Resumen

The present research was aimed to identify the cause of the low performance of English as a foreign language in second grade students at the San Antonio Sur public school, Managua Nicaragua. This study examines affective filters' role in second language acquisition within a controlled educational environment. Emotional and attitudinal factors, referred to as affective filters by Stephen Krashen, could affect language learning success. This study employs a quasi experimental research design to investigate the degree to which these affective factors influence language acquisition results. The study involves language learners from a population who go through a series of instructional interventions. These interventions aim to manipulate affective variables such as motivation, anxiety, and attitude towards language learning. The quasi experimental design allows for the language proficiency outcomes comparison between the experimental group, which is subjected to affective filter manipulation, and the control group, which receives minimal affective intervention. The results of the study show that the low performance in the acquisition of English as a foreign language is due to the fact that the majority of second grade students have a high affective filter
