Resumen
There are many high schools where youths take English class as part of the syllabus implemented by the Minister of Education of Nicaragua.
Despite the program mixes the four principal skills of the English Language (listening, speaking, reading and writing)
there are some difficulties that obstruct the acquisition of English language, concretely in the developing of listening skills.
In this work, we intend to identify what reasons bring about low-level in listening skills proficiency in English as a foreign language. Hence, this study conveys a great
importance because listening skills represent a vast part of communication in the English language.
There has been little interest in doing researches on this topic.
Besides, those works that have done before this have not said much in relation to how to face the problems in the
area of listening comprehension skills.
We expect that the findings of this research study and recommendations can help students and teachers of English in secondary schools and improve the quality of the development of listening skills.
