Resumen
Objective: the aim of this study is to assess the Nicaraguan bodybuilders’ alimentary behavior prior to the Central American games. Methodology: a sample of 20 bodybuilders (15 men and 5 women) between 26 – 30 years old was taken for the study. The corporal composition was evaluated throughout Heath Carter’ Somatotype and the classification of fat in the body through the American Collage Sports’ criteria 2005. The alimentary behavior was measured through the 24 hours reminder in which the data was collected in three days, two days in the week and one day on the weekend. The measure of weight of the food was converted into grams. The calories and macronutrients were measured through the nutritional program of Central American and Panama, NUTRIINCAP. Results: The data about the fat in the body was gathered in the following percentages: 50% from the gym and a 25% respectively for the athlete category and acceptable fat. According to the somatotype, the 90% of the athletes has a mesomorph and a minority of the population, endomorph and ectomorph, 5% respectively. In relation to the calorific intake from the macronutrients, there was an unbalanced ingestion of carbohydrates, proteins and fat. Conclusions: The Nicaraguan athletes have a high intake of the macronutrients, thus, considered as an appropriate ingestion for the type of the physical activity they perform.
